This is where the magic happens. And by magic I mean the long, tedious hours of patient, painstaking work cartoon-making entails. But no big, ya know?

Hey Sodapop!

Sodapop is my new ongoing project for 2017. It's a traditional comic strip formatted for an "Instagram world." New installments can be read on Instagram @hey_sodapop or (if you're old-school like me) at www.heysodapop.com.

The strip is about a rescue pup and his hapless but loving owner, Emily. They share a bond that allows them to "understand" each other in plain English.

I've avoided drawing "pet comics" virtually my entire career because I wasn't sure what else could be done with them. In Sodapop, I've found the chance to write about two people rebounding from past hurts and learning to open up to someone again. In a sense, it's not really a comic about pet ownership--it's a comic about second chances. One that (hopefully) explores the topic with humor and genuine feeling without getting sentimental. I hope you enjoy it!
